Kevin Henkes Author Study {Chester's Way, Wemberly Worried, & Lilly's Purple Plastic Purse}

We have had so much fun with our Kevin Henkes Author study!!! I really did have plans to blog about each day... it just didn't happen!  I always forget how exhausting and time consuming those first few weeks of school really are!

So... I'm going to share a few of my favorite things!

Here is a look at our bulletin board! We are displaying our reading strategies that ALL "good" readers use!! I forgot to take pictures of Wemberly and Lilly's boots!  They are hanging inside the classroom because we ran out of room!

This is a look at our reading strategy poster.  We will be adding more strategies as the year goes on!

Making Connections
We read Wemberly Worried and learned that good readers make connections when reading. We completed this connections sheet and made a cute little Wemberly.

We read Chester's Way and learned that good readers analyze characters and determine character traits. We completed this cute little pea pod craft and character analysis worksheet.

We defined an inference...

Then, I used an inferencing activity from Abby Mullins at the Inspired Apple. I pulled things out of my bag and the kiddos made inferences about me! It was interesting when I pulled out a flash drive. The kids had no idea what it was! We discussed the fact that you can only make inferences when you have background knowledge. After they learned what the flash drive was used for, they were then able to come to some conclusions and infer!

We completed this worksheet...

And read Lilly's Purple Plastic Purse.  I did a lot of "thinking aloud" to express the inferences that I could make while reading. The kiddos got together to share "inferences" that they made about Lilly.  We completed an inferencing worksheet & made a cute boot (That I forgot to take pictures of!) And... that was the end of our author study!! SO MUCH FUN!!!

You can find all of these activities at my TpT store by clicking here!!!!
